Today I share an alternate mix of Ordinary Girl, a song from my album released last year, The Isolator. Part of the process and practice of making records involves different iterations of decisions, different versions, and it's nice to make public an alternate life of this song; one that had all of the same skeleton, but arrived to a different place.
This version Scott Merritt and I spent many hours labouring over, using beautiful analog equipment in his studio in Guelph, where we also mixed the rest of The Isolator record. Though I eventually opted to go with the version that you hear on the record, which was my original reference "demo" mix - a mix that contained some inexplicable energy I couldn't quite let go of, I am still really excited + proud about this other not-so-ordinary rendition, and always hoped to put it out into the world, rather than let it sit on a hard drive. Thanks to my label Idée Fixe for being open to the idea. And to all the nerds, this is an invitation to know your thoughts + feelings when comparing the two.
Tune in here:
